The management team have 85 years of organising experience between them. Elizabeth Bowman ran an antiques shop for many years. She exhibited at one of the very few antiques fairs running in the early 1970's and from her experience decided to establish her own 'less formal' event at Pudsey Civic Hall in 1973. The event was a resounding success.
From then on Elizabeth established fairs at Lords Cricket Ground, York Racecourse, Edinburgh, Bingley, Lincoln, Harrogate, Otley, Retford and Leeds.
Expansion to larger events came with Doncaster Racecourse and the Bingley Hall at Stafford.
Around the same time Elizabeth's husband Peter joined the management team full-time.
Back in the 1970's & early 1980's Sunday trading was a live issue for the few fairs organisers and to ensure representation at the highest level the Antiques Fairs Organisers Association was established. "There was much more co-operation between organisers then" says Elizabeth.
Today there are hundreds of fairs and organisers across the country. The Stafford Bingley Hall Fair is still amongst the best fairs in the country renowned for the quality and variety of exhibitors, combined with an informal atmosphere.
The Stafford Bingley Hall Fairs has a very good reputation for furniture which is all 'vetted' for authenticity to a 1950 dateline.
Elizabeth & Peter's daughter, Helen, now takes care of the day to day running of the fairs with her husband Ben and administrator Karen Wakefield.
Helen has a background in advertising and marketing, communications and event organising, whilst Ben worked in the care sector and in the media before joining Bowman Antiques Fairs full time.
Karen Wakefield has wide ranging administrative experience. She worked for a public relations firm before joining Bowman Antiques Fairs.
We are Sad to announce the death of Peter Bowman after a short Illness. He will be missed by all who knew him.
